Summary
Congratulations! You are one step further in the LUNA journey. Maybe you even learned some techniques to help with your own stress or anxiety! Take a moment to thank yourself for the hard work you have put into this program so far and remember to forgive yourself for things that do not go as planned.
This week, we talked about different ways your child can cope with feelings of anxiety. Finding coping skills that work for your child can take time; you may need to come back to this module multiple times so that your child can continue practicing and find out what works best for them. Below are some summary points to keep in mind:
- Identifying anxiety is important because it lets us know when we might need to use coping skills.
- Coping skills can help us calm down or relax. Find out which coping skills work for your child so that they can use them to relax when they are not in an anxiety-provoking situation (e.g., reading, drawing), or when they are facing situations that cause anxiety (e.g., deep breathing, having a fidget toy, 5-4-3-2-1).
- Your child can use coping skills throughout the LUNA program as they learn to face their fears.
Over the next week, remember to...
- Have your child practice the two coping skills they identified on the Choosing Your Coping Tools worksheet.
- Use the Coping Skills Tracking Form to keep track of your child’s practice.
- Continue helping your child complete the activities in their plan of action and log them in the Activity Log.
- If your child is ready, make a new plan of action to complete by referring to Module 4.
