Congratulations! You just finished Module 2
This week, we have talked about the three components of anxiety and rewards. Below are some summary points to take away:
- There are three components to anxiety: thoughts (when we think something bad will happen), physical reactions (how the body feels because of anxiety) and behaviors (the actions we perform because of our anxiety).
- The anxiety scale is a tool that you and your child will use to share the level of anxiety your child experiences at any moment.
- Rewards are often necessary to motivate and engage your child with the program.
- Rewards should be meaningful, proportional and diverse. Rewards can also be direct (e.g., a prize)/indirect (e.g., Brave Bucks) and tangible (e.g., a toy)/non-tangible (e.g., choosing a movie for family movie night).
- You should always follow through on the rewards while allowing some room for flexibility.
- You can either use the Brave Bucks with a Rewards Menu, the direct rewards with a Rewards List or both!
- Whatever you choose, make sure to land on a decision together with your child so you are both happy with the system you agreed on.
Over the next week:
- Choose the reward system that work for you and your child. Then, fill up your Rewards Menu or Rewards List
- Encourage your child to start using the anxiety scale to describe how they are feeling
