Summary
Congratulations! You just finished the second module of LUNA. This week, we talked about the three components of anxiety and about keeping your child motivated. Below are some summary points:
- There are three different aspects of anxiety: your thoughts (thinking something bad will happen), physical reactions (how your body physically feels), and behaviors (the actions we perform due to anxiety).
- The anxiety intensity scale is a tool your child will use to better communicate and make sense of their anxiety. They will work on rating their anxiety intensity level on a scale of 0 to 10.
- Rewards or motivation boosters are helpful for motivating and encouraging your child to face their fears.
- Motivation boosters should be meaningful, proportional and diverse. Motivation boosters can also be direct or indirect, and tangible or intangible. If your child is older, they may want to practice motivating themselves by giving themselves motivation boosters (with your guidance and support)!
Over the next week, remember to…
- Work along with your child to create a list of Motivation Boosters.
- Encourage your child to start using the anxiety intensity scale to describe how they are feeling.
