What's Covered in Module 3

Content

This week, you and your child will learn how to use coping skills to manage their anxiety. We will also give you specific instructions for 2 specific skills:

  1. Deep breathing (2 different approaches)
  2. Grounding Practice with 5-4-3-2-1

Then, you and your child will look over a list of coping skills and choose two that you want to focus on.

This module will take 30 minutes to complete readings and watch videos, and a couple of minutes every day to do activities this week. We encourage you to take breaks and come back to the material as much as you need.

Previously on LUNA…

Over the last two weeks, you and your child:

  • Learned what anxiety is. Remember, anxiety is a normal emotion everyone has to keep us safe. LUNA is about helping when kids feel too much anxiety or anxiety in situations that are not dangerous.
  • Learned about the three parts of anxiety- including the physical aspect (for example, heart beating fast or sweating), anxious thoughts (expecting bad things to happen), and behavior (avoiding feared situations).
  • You also set goals for the program, which we encouraged be specific and measurable.
  • You also identified rewards that might be motivating for your child. We hope you have begun to use this system! They might be useful this week as your child begins practicing coping skills.
