Stories from the Heart of Medicine
Theme: Lights and Delights
- Location: Mercantile, 3321 Stanford St., Houston, Texas 77006
- Time/Date: 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 24, 2025.
What can illuminate a journey between health and illness? What are the thrills in moving from novice to understanding? Tell a story about a "light “person, spark, skill, news, whatever-and the discovery (or disappointment?) to which the light led. What was revealed? What changed? Did the light evoke joy or expose emptiness?
The tale you submit about those lights and where they led you can be true, fictional, or a mix of both. Pack your story with engaging characters, realistic dialogue, and vivid scenes. Give us tension and dramatic action! The setting could be a clinic, hospital, or somewhere far from health care. Please submit your story (600 - 900 words) by March 2.
If selected, we'll invite you to read your story during a free one-hour storytelling event at Mercantile on April 24 at 5:30 p.m. Anyone can attend, and anyone can submit a story. If yours is accepted, you will join fellow storytellers on March 25 or 26 for a workshop led by an experienced writer.
