The following researchers from the United States and around the world have collaborated with Dr. Douglas Burrin on projects and publications.
Per Sangild
University of Copenhagen, Denmark
I have collaborated with Per Sangild for more than 25 years. We first met at the Swine in Biomedical Research Conference in 1995 in Maryland. We published our first journal article together in 1998 showing the intestinal trophic action of GLP-2 in TPN-fed piglets. Per’s research career has been highly productive and has also used neonatal piglet models to study various aspects of pediatric nutrition and neonatology. An important collaboration began when I was on a sabbatical leave in his laboratory in Copenhagen and we discovered that premature piglets developed NEC-like clinical symptoms when fed infant formulas. His group went on to publish this work in a landmark paper in Gastroenterology. We have continued to collaborate on various projects over the years.
