The Section of Cardiovascular Research is committed to advancing the evolving knowledge base on lipid disorders, atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, and other cardiometabolic disorders.

Preventive Cardiology Fellowship

The Preventive Cardiology Fellowship trains physicians who will become future leaders in the prevention and treatment of atherosclerosis. The program focuses on fundamental knowledge, clinical skills, presentation skills, and character/ethics.

Collaborative Research Training in Thrombosis and Inflammation T32 Postdoctoral Training Program

The NIH/NHLBI T32 training grant "Collaborative Research Training in Thrombosis and Inflammation" is designed to train M.D., M.D./Ph.D., and Ph.D. postdoctoral scientists for collaborative research careers in the inter-related topics of thrombosis and inflammation. Miguel Cruz, Ph.D. is a program co-director and mentor, and Vinod Vijayan, Ph.D. is a mentor.

Atherosclerosis and Preventive Cardiology Conference

The weekly Atherosclerosis and Preventive Cardiology Conference series includes lectures on core topics, guest speakers, and journal club presentations on key recent research.

Center for Translational Research on Inflammatory Diseases Research Seminar

The weekly Center for Translational Research on Inflammatory Diseases (CTRID) research seminar series, held in collaboration with the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center, provides a platform to promote interactions and collaboration among new and established investigators and to elicit feedback on upcoming grant applications, manuscripts, and other projects.
