Stop SUDEP Program: Registry and Tissue Donation (H-32343)

Sudden Unexplained Death in Epilepsy (SUDEP) is a catastrophic complication of epilepsy. The mechanism of SUDEP is not fully understood. There is evidence that genetic factors may predispose an individual to epilepsy and to SUDEP. STOP SUDEP RESEARCH PROGRAM is a genetic repository and molecular research on SUDEP mechanisms and risk factors.

The investigators at the Department of Neurology at Baylor College of Medicine are actively recruiting patients who died due to SUDEP and families who lost a family member due to SUDEP. The investigators are collecting tissues and clinical information for a research study with the ultimate goal to develop treatments and interventions that will prevent SUDEP.
