About the Program

Content

Faculty in the Department of Family and Community Medicine, under Program Director, Roger Zoorob, M.D., MPH, FAAFP, received funding from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) to continue our T32 Primary Care Research Fellowship grant. The training grant is a five-year award of $1.9 million.

The fellowship is open to M.D.s, Ph.D.s, and other doctoral degree holders. Our comprehensive training program aims to prepare healthcare professionals pursuing career pathways in primary care research. This fellowship follows a core curriculum, encourages team mentoring from multiple disciplines, and opens opportunities to explore a variety of research topics as well as collaborate with other institutions throughout the Texas Medical Center. Our program's activities include training in clinical epidemiology, health informatics and the use of large administrative databases, health services research in primary care, oral and written presentation, project management, and grant writing. In addition, each fellow has the ability to make connections with faculty to establish mentorship and develop a custom plan to meet individualized objectives.

Over the coming years, the Department of Family and Community Medicine looks forward to working with a diverse group of fellows that will be trained to be future leaders in primary care research and advocates for health equity.

The Primary Care Postdoctoral Fellowship is open to physicians who have completed a primary care residency program or to graduates of a doctoral program in a discipline related to primary care research, such as nursing, psychology, and epidemiology.

Applications are open for the T32 Primary Care Research Fellowship. The fellowship is open to M.D., Ph.D., and other doctoral degree holders who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents. The program implements a multifaceted training program that comprehensively prepares healthcare professionals for a career in primary care research.
