Administrative Fellowship FAQs

BCM generally accepts two fellows each year, but it is contingent upon the needs of the organization, and always subject to change.

A recent graduate is an applicant who has graduated within 18 months of the start date of the fellowship program, July 1, 2025, from an accredited school with a master’s or doctorate with an emphasis in health care administration, policy, or finance.

Baylor College of Medicine does not require the letters to be addressed to a specific person. If you would prefer, letters can be addressed to Sean Ryan and sent to the following mailing address:

It is acceptable for the recommendation letters to be sent separately, provided that they all are received in advance of the application due date. We do ask that you let us know through email or in your application packet that they will be sent separately.

We will not need transcripts from a community college if your official undergraduate transcripts have the transferred credits with the letter/number grade present. If your official undergraduate transcript does not have the grades noted, we will need the transcripts from the community college that indicate the grade.

Candidates will receive communication regarding their application in November.

The fellowship lasts for one year.

Yes, the fellowship structure has at least two months carved out for focused rotations based on the Administrative Fellows personal interest and department agreement.

Yes, the fellows will have the opportunity to become a member of the Texas Medical Center Administrative Fellowship Association. This association includes all administrative fellows throughout the TMC.

In addition to the Fellowship Preceptor, fellows receive additional support from pre-designated mentors, previous fellows, and other key leaders within Baylor College of Medicine as identified by the Preceptor.

Below is a list of some of the key projects completed by former fellows:

Finance

• Analyzed financial statements and provided recommendations regarding profit distribution structure for a Baylor partnership-owned Ambulatory Surgical Center.
• Developed a financial model for a new low-cost Community Health Clinic, which was used in the presentation to a financial sponsor and subsequently accepted.

Operations

• Developed new patient triage process for a HCHD Community Health Clinic that improved walk-in patient flow and employee morale.
• Collaborated with project leadership and consultants for the Clinical Physicians Compensation Plan design and data collection.

Strategic Planning

• Developed a business plan, financial analysis, and staffing matrix for a $35M Occupational Medicine Program.
• Performed a feasibility analysis of implementing a systematic colorectal cancer screening program within the Harris County Hospital District including a four-year pro forma of a proposed colonoscopy procedure suite.

Quality Improvement

• Designed, implemented, and evaluated Quality Outcomes Study to measure clinical qualities for the implementation of our 5-year strategic plan.
• Implemented a Center of Excellence Program at Texas Children's Hospital for Pediatric Oncology, Cardiovascular Surgery and Cardiology.

Information Technology

• Worked on Implementation of Logician Electronic Medical Record system and About My Health EMR Web Access Tool.
• Worked with the Office of Information Technology and outside vendor to plan for an online communication tool to assist with interactions between the Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center and Baylor College of Medicine.
