Professional Statement
I grew up in Pearland, Texas and attended Pearland High School where I was a student-athlete and a peer buddy to the Life Skills students in the special education department. I loved building relationships with my peers, which kickstarted my desire to serve families with various genetic diagnoses. I attended Houston Christian University where I played four years of NCAA Division 1 softball and graduated with my Bachelor of Science in Biology.During my time at HCU, I served as a student-worker for the Office of the Provost where I provided multidisciplinary support to faculty and staff across various colleges. Through this, I discovered an appreciation for academia that I hope to eventually utilize in my professional career. I also completed a summer as an intern at a Cancer Biology lab at MD Anderson Cancer Center where I aided in research of novel therapeutic techniques and their implications for neurological cancers and diseases. Over the years, I had the privilege of participating in several mentorship programs, pouring into younger generations and encouraging individuals in their endeavors. I continued volunteering with special populations through the Christina Sullivan Foundation and Special Olympics where I was able to share my love for sports with people with physical and cognitive disabilities. These experiences reaffirmed my desire to advocate for these individuals and their families as a genetic counselor, providing them with knowledge about their genetics and psychosocial support.
I am so grateful to be a part of the class of 2026 and continue growing my love for genetics and people! I am particularly interested in pediatrics and neurogenetics. I would love to connect with prospective students about my personal journey, Houston life, or anything BCM related!
