Professional Statement
I am a Senior Health Scientist at the Environmental Defense Fund (EDF) and have a voluntary appointment with Program in Population and Environmental Health Disparities in the Center for Precision Environmental Health. I have dedicated my scientific efforts in service to Houston's environmental justice communities to address long standing disparities in environment, climate, and health. I lead EDF's Data to Action work in Houston, providing scientific expertise and guidance to community-based organizations to build environmental justice capacity and to implement community science efforts in underrepresented communities. For example, I assisted three community-based organizations in Houston design, deploy, and operate community owned low-cost air monitoring networks used to measure and advocate for better air quality and public health in their environmental justice neighborhoods. I have also lead interdisciplinary teams in development of regional and national environmental justice screening and mapping tools to identify disadvantaged communities and understand climate, environmental, health, social, economic, and infrastructure drivers leading to neighborhood level inequity and barriers to climate resilience.Websites
