Professional Statement
Being an academic surgeon, my clinical interests span across the wide breadth that vascular surgery has to offer including cerebrovascular disease, hemodialysis access arterial pathology, and limb salvage with a concurrent research interest in the latter two.I completed my medical school at the Aga Khan University in 2007, followed by general surgery residency at the University of Maryland completed in June 2018, with board certification from the American board of Surgery in 2018. I am currently in training in a vascular surgery fellowship at the Baylor College under Dr Joseph Mills. My training has exposed me to a wide breadth of complex open and endovascular procedures especially with a focus on aortic aneurysms and limb salvage. My overall experience has prepared me both operatively and with clinical decision-making skills necessary to be an effective vascular surgeon.
During My general surgery training, I did a 2-year research fellowship in a molecular biology lab with a focus on proteins involved in maintaining intestinal integrity in both ex-vivo and invitro murine models. This resulted in a podium presentation and a first author paper. I, otherwise, have a strong research background which includes publishing outcomes research in peer reviewed journals, book chapters and presenting at regional and national meetings in both general and vascular surgery. I plan to continue to be involved in research with a focus on limb salvage and aortic pathology.
Lastly, I have always had a keen interest in surgical education and resident development. I have previous spearheaded a junior mentorship program, aided in starting the women in surgery program at Maryland and was involved in teaching medical students. In the future, I intend to help develop a focused ultrasound course, cadaver lab for vascular exposures and suturing labs for general surgery residents rotating on vascular.
