Professional Statement
I am from Stockton, California and received my undergraduate education from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. I first heard about genetic counseling from a personal family experience, and my interest in the field was solidified after taking a genetics course at my undergraduate university. These two experiences set me on the path to pursuing a career as a genetic counselor.Following graduation, I worked as a behavior technician for children with autism spectrum disorder. This role gave me experience working with different patient populations and showed me the importance of being an advocate for your client. During this time, I also completed a graduate certificate in Clinical Genetics and Genomics at the University of Connecticut. This certificate program deepened my appreciation and understanding of genetics and allowed me to connect with other individuals also interested in pursuing genetic counseling as a career.
After completing this graduate certificate program, I started working as a genetic counseling assistant at Natera for the Preimplantation Genetic Testing and Products of Conception GC team. This position was instrumental in preparing me for a genetic counseling graduate program and gave me unique opportunities to be involved in abstract development for different professional conferences. While working as a GCA at Natera, I also spent time volunteering with Crisis Text Line as a crisis counselor.
In my free time, I enjoy doing yoga, going on hikes, and exploring Houston and all the amazing food options here! I am so excited to be a part of the Baylor College of Medicine Genetic Counseling Class of 2024 and love connecting with prospective students. Please feel free to email me to learn more about BCM.
