Professional Statement
In the practice of Sports Medicine, identifying the underlying cause for an athlete’s problem and designing an individualized program to correct that problem is the key to providing effective care. The majority of my patients are young athletes (less than 20 years of age), but a significant proportion are younger heart but older than the usual pediatric patient (oldest patient is 89 years old). I have a clinical interest in treating endurance athletes (runners, bikers, swimmers, triathletes, etc.), throwing athletes, as well as club and scholastic sports athletes (i.e.-football, basketball, volleyball, soccer, tennis, and dance). I believe educating the patient and family about the diagnosis and its causes empowers them to be an active participant in the healing process. My research interests have been in the area of fluid and electrolyte abnormalities and endurance athletes and designing educational interventions to prevent these problems.
