Professional Statement
Jason studied math, physics, and thanatology at the University of Rhode Island and attended Brown University for medical school. He completed residency and chief residency in the Harvard Affiliated Emergency Medicine Residency co-sponsored by Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) and Brigham & Women’s Hospital (BWH), clinical fellowship in the Harvard Interprofessional Palliative Care Fellowship at MGH, BWH, and Dana Farber Cancer Institute (DFCI), and also the DFCI Psychosocial Oncology and Palliative Care Research Fellowship. After completing his training, Jason joined the faculty at Harvard Medical School and worked clinically as an emergency and palliative medicine attending physician at BWH, MGH, and DFCI for three years. His wife's job then brought them to Houston where he was delighted to join the faculty at Baylor College of Medicine, to work clinically as an emergency and palliative medicine attending physician as well as do research at The Center for Innovations in Quality, Effectiveness and Safety Home (IQuESt).
Jason's research is focused on better understanding patients with serious illness and their interactions with emergency medical services (EMS) and emergency departments (EDs), with the goal of improving quality of care and outcomes. His passion for this work in-part comes from his own personal experiences helping to care for his grandparents and mother as they each battled terminal illness. He lives here in Houston with his wife, a surgical oncology fellow, their very energetic husky rescue dog Jack, and their daughter.
