Professional Statement

Dr. Byrne received her Bachelor of Arts with a major in Psychology in 2007 at the University of Notre Dame. She went on to earn her M.D. from the UT Health Science Center at San Antonio as well as her MPH from UT Health Science Center at Houston in 2012. She completed her internship and pediatric residency training at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago, Northwestern McGaw Medical School in 2015 and her year as a chief resident in 2016. She subsequently began practice in Pediatric Hospitalist Medicine. She is currently an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at Baylor College of Medicine working at Christus Children’s in San Antonio. She currently is the Associate Program Director for the Pediatric Hospital Medicine Fellowship at Christus Children’s. She also serves as the interim Co-Division Chief for the Division of Pediatric Hospital Medicine. In addition to fellowship education and mentoring, she has a passion for using simulation education to augment the clinical rotations of trainees. Her specific research interests include assessing clinical reasoning, crisis resource management skills and fostering teamwork using high and low fidelity simulations.
