Zachary Gray, PA-C, assistant professor in the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery has won the 2024 Carl Fasser Visionary Leadership Award from Baylor College of Medicine. This prestigious award is given to a faculty or alumni member who demonstrates exceptional leadership in education, research, clinical practice and service. Zac is a highly valued advanced practice provider for the robotic cardiothoracic surgery team at Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center. He created evidence-based pre-and post-operative guidelines, helping his team achieve some of the best national results in cardiac robotic surgery, including the shortest hospital stays and lowest mortality rates. Since 2019, surgeries have increased by 30% under his leadership. Additionally, Zac developed a new care protocol for robotic cardiothoracic surgery patients. Beyond patient care, he leads monthly education sessions, orients new team members and is a top contributor to research in Baylor’s Department of Surgery.
