T32 Fellow Dr. Ishan Kamat Awarded Seed Accelerator Funding
Dr. Ishan Kamat, internal medicine resident and T32 biodesign research fellow in the Department of Surgery, and his start-up team have received funding from two medical device seed accelerators, including ZeroTo510 ($50,000), which opens up many opportunities. Separately, Dr. Kamat’s team also advanced to the national level in the National Science Foundation's Innovation Corps ($50,000). The I-Corps program uses experiential education to help researchers gain insight into entrepreneurship, starting a business or industry requirements and challenges.
Dr. Kamat joined Baylor College of Medicine’s T32 Research Training Program in Cardiovascular Surgery as a MeRIT (Medical Resident Investigator Track) scholar. He is currently in the bioengineering and biodesign research track under the mentorship of Dr. William Cohn, professor of surgery at the College and director of the Center for Device Innovation in Texas Medical Center.
