Baylor to host quality and safety conference for healthcare professionals, trainees May 14 in Houston

Baylor College of Medicine, a leader in healthcare, research and education, will host an educational conference May 14 for healthcare professionals and trainees focused on quality improvement and patient safety initiatives.

“Quality improvement and patient safety have become increasingly important for patients, payers, and health care providers,” said Dr. Emily Sedgwick, The Pat Korell Endowed Professorship in Breast Imaging and director of breast imaging in the Lester and Sue Smith Breast Center at Baylor and a director of the conference. “Providing health care with best outcomes at the lowest cost can only be achieved if we learn systematic approaches to improvement and patient safety.”

The conference will teach providers quality improvement skills that can be implemented in the clinical environment. Attendees will also discuss the ethics underlying quality improvement and how to apply quality improvement projects for maintenance of certification programs.

Additionally, a poster presentation of successful quality improvement and patient safety projects will follow the lectures so attendees can learn from ongoing efforts in the Houston area.

Health professionals, physicians, resident physicians, medical and allied health students, healthcare trainees and healthcare industry professionals from the Houston region can register.

The conference will be held in the Baylor Cullen Auditorium, One Baylor Plaza, 77030), from 4 – 7 p.m. You must register no less than 24 hours in advance to attend.
