Mentored medical student receives Fulbright-Fogarty NIH Award
Srinithya “Nithya” Gillipelli, a Baylor medical student working with Rachel W. Davis, M.D., assistant professor in the Division of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery, has received a Fulbright-Fogarty NIH Award grant from the Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board and the National Institutes of Health Fogarty International Center for the academic year 2024-2025. Appointed by the President of the United States, the 12-member Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board was established by Congress to supervise the global Fulbright Program. The Fulbright Program is devoted to increasing mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the people of other countries. It is the world’s largest and most diverse international education exchange program. As part of her award, Gillipelli will go to Peru where she will conduct global surgery research under the guidance of Dr. Davis, Larry H. Hollier, M.D., Patricia Garcia, M.D., MPH, Ph.D., (former Minister of Health of Peru) and other faculty mentors.
