Dr. Hoffman Takes on New Positions at Ben Taub Hospital

Marcus Hoffman, M.D., assistant professor of surgery and assistant director of UME Simulation Programs at Baylor College of Medicine, has been named Medical Director of the DCDD (Donation after Circulatory Determination of Death) program and Associate Medical Director in the Trauma and Surgical Critical Care Unit at Ben Taub Hospital. He has already overseen Ben Taub's first ever donation after circulatory determination of death & will supervise future donations until the process becomes routine practice within the hospital. As Associate Medical Director in the TSICU, he will assist Dr. Jeremy Ward in assuring the highest quality outcomes and will supervise the ICU at the administrative level. Dr. Hoffman earned his medical degree from the University of Pittsburgh and completed his training in general surgery at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. There, he also conducted NIH-funded research in trauma and critical care before completing additional clinical fellowship training in surgical critical care and acute care surgery. Dr. Hoffman’s research interests include the influence of frailty and debility on outcomes in trauma and critical illness. Dr. Hoffman also has a strong interest in medical student and resident education.
