Evenings with Genetics - Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome

Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, commonly known as EDS, is a group of genetic disorders that impacts the connective tissue and often results in joint hypermobility, hyperextensible or fragile skin and/or blood vessel enlargement/rupture. A Baylor College of Medicine genetics expert will share information on the latest advances and care for Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome during the Evenings with Genetics virtual seminar on Tuesday, Nov. 10, at 7 p.m.

During the hourlong webinar, Dr. Shweta Dhar, associate professor of molecular and human genetics and medical director of the Adult Genetics clinic at Baylor College of Medicine, will discuss the sub-types of EDS and current care for the hypermobile type (hEDS). Lara Bloom, president and CEO of the Ehlers Danlos Society, will discuss the nonprofit’s work to spread awareness and improve quality of life for people with this condition.

“The diagnosis and management of hEDS is challenging. Many patients end up on a diagnostic odyssey and even after reaching the diagnosis are unable to get comprehensive management. This seminar aims to provide a starting point in their EDS care with an overview of management as well as resources available through the EDS society,” Dhar said.

Evenings with Genetics is a regular speaker series hosted by Baylor College of Medicine and Texas Children’s Hospital that offers the most current information on care and research advances for many genetic conditions. The seminars provide an opportunity for patients in the genetics community to interact with other families experiencing similar situations.
