Dr. Mondal Awarded Roderick D. MacDonald Research Funding

Dr. Nandan K. Mondal, assistant professor of surgery in the Division of Cardiothoracic Transplantation and Circulatory Support has been awarded $42,000 by the Roderick D. MacDonald Research Fund Committee at Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center for his research titled “Urine Exosome Proteomics: A Novel Means to Non-Invasively Assess Kidney Health in Mechanical Circulatory Support”.
In this research project, Dr. Mondal and his team are assessing the feasibility of urine exosome extraction, protein quantification and development of a urinary biorepository. They are using a non-invasive, precision medicine approach to investigate kidney complications in people with severe heart failure who need a mechanical heart pump. This urine exosome proteomics study will enable precise diagnostics and mechanistic insights critical to improving outcomes for patients.
