Dr. Mokhtari awarded best presentation at ECTES Congress
Ava Mokhtari, M.D., general surgery resident in the research track, won best oral presentation in her session at the European Congress for Trauma and Emergency Surgery for the abstract “Validating Dogma: Predictors of Therapeutic Thoracotomy after Tube Thoracostomy.” This research shows that hemodynamic status, chest injury severity and initial chest tube output volume are associated with the need for a therapeutic thoracotomy (thoracotomy performed in the operating room with a hemorrhage control intervention) following placement of a chest tube in the trauma bay. The yearly conference is hosted by the European Society for Trauma and Emergency Surgery, a European community of clinicians providing care to the injured and critically ill surgical patient. This was the 23rd congress and was held in Lisbon on April 28-30.
