Dr. N. Thao N. Galvan, assistant professor of surgery in the Division of Abdominal Transplantation, and her colleague, Dr. Shruti Sakhuja, a pediatric gastroenterology fellow, have received the 2022 ASTS-Natera Socio Economic and Racial Disparity Grant from the ASTS Foundation. They will utilize this research grant funding for their proposal entitled "Developing a tool to assess psychosocial determinants of health and quality of life in pediatric liver transplant patients."  This award encourages transplant surgeons and other professionals to actively pursue research to eliminate health disparities in transplantation.

Dr. Galvan completed her medical degree at Emory University School of Medicine and her Master in Public Health from Tulane. Her General Surgery and Abdominal Transplant Fellowship training took place at Baylor College of Medicine.  Her interests include health policy, ethics, innovation and surgical technique, especially focused on the pediatric transplant population.
