Surgery Resident One of Four Inaugural CTRID T32 Fellows
Dr. Lisa Brubaker was recently enrolled into the Center for Translational Research on Inflammatory Diseases (CTRID) T32 program “Collaborative Research Training in Thrombosis and Inflammation.” In this program, M.D. and Ph.D. trainees participate in a collaborative didactic and research training program on conditions highlighting the links between inflammation and thrombosis. Dr. Brubaker is one of four fellows in this year’s inaugural class.
Her mentoring team will be led by Dr. Qizhi Cathy Yao, professor of Surgery, Molecular Virology & Microbiology and Pathology & Immunology. Dr. Brubaker is also mentored by Dr. George Van Buren II, M.D., associate professor of Surgery, supporting the translation of their basic science findings to the clinical field.
Dr. Brubaker plans to complete a surgical fellowship after graduation and to pursue a career as an academic surgeon. The Center for Translational Research on Inflammatory Diseases was inaugurated at Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center in the Spring of 2013. CTRID is composed of MEDVAMC-based Baylor College of Medicine physician-scientists and Ph.D. scientists. Its activities are supported by the Houston VA Research & Education Foundation, MEDVAMC, and Baylor College of Medicine.
