Baylor study provides evidence-based anxiety treatments for autistic children with anxiety at the Harris Center
Baylor College of Medicine is conducting a research study with the Harris Center to provide evidence-based cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) to treat autistic children and teens experiencing anxiety. CBT is an effective form of therapy that addresses anxiety through helping individuals change their thought patterns and learn to gradually confront feared situations. Dr. Eric Storch, professor and vice chair of psychology in the Menninger Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Baylor, is leading the study.
If you are a parent of an autistic child or teenager experiencing anxiety, consider enrolling your child in the Community-Based Anxiety Program Tailor for Autism (CAPTA). This program entails a 14-week course of therapy at the Harris Center for Mental Health and IDD and a total of four virtual assessment interviews, offering up to $125 of compensation. Children with autism ages 7-17 with elevated symptoms of anxiety may be eligible. Both the parent and child must speak English or Spanish.
