Baylor College of Medicine's first Wellness 5k Race/Walk takes place in October
When it comes to good health, medical students at Baylor College of Medicine can talk the talk, but they also want to bring the Houston community together to walk the walk at the inaugural BCM Wellness 5k Race and Walk.
Benefitting Recipe for Success and the BCM Wellness Education Fund, the event will take place on Saturday, Oct. 13, at 8:30 a.m., with a costume contest starting at 8 a.m. The race will start at BCM’s main campus, located at One Baylor Plaza, Houston, TX 77030, and take a scenic route along Brays Bayou and the Texas Medical Center.
Students hope to join with the community to focus on health as a concept that extends beyond the clinic to include social, psychological and environmental elements of health.
Recipe for Success, a non-profit organization based in Houston, promotes healthy eating and nutrition to children in the community. The BCM Wellness Education Fund provides seed funding for student-initiated community health projects.
Post-race activities will take place in the McGovern Commons of the Texas Medical Center, 6550 Bertner Ave., and will include a kid’s 1k race at 9:30 a.m. and an awards ceremony with food, music and prizes.
