Description
Measuring Automated Behavioral Observations and Vocal Expressions (ABOVE) While Recording from the Brain
Baylor College of Medicine Menninger Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences is seeking participants with contamination-related compulsions and healthy controls for a study investigating symptoms of obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD). The goal of this study is to capture video recordings of head, body, face dynamics, along with simultaneous recording of brain activity (EEG), during tasks that are designed to make people feel a little anxious or happy. This data may help investigators to further understand relationships between brain activity and OCD behaviors. This study includes people with and without OCD for comparison.
OCD Participants:
• Must be between 21 and 70 years old (men and women)
• Have significant fears about cleanliness, germs, or chemicals
• No diagnosis of psychotic disorder (e.g., schizophrenia)
• No alcohol and/or substance abuse in the past 6 months
Healthy Controls:
• Must be between 21 and 70 years old (men and women)
• No diagnosis of any psychiatric disorders
• No alcohol and/or substance abuse in the past six months
Participation involves a three-hour visit. This visit will involve answering questions and performing some tasks while undergoing video recordings and a non-invasive electroencephalogram (EEG). Participants will also be asked to wash their hands at a sink in the clinic.
Participants will be compensated for their time and parking will be validated.
