The Division of Congenital Heart Surgery at Texas Children’s Hospital offers every procedure available for the treatment of congenital heart disease and defects. As a part of Texas Children’s Heart Center, the top heart center in the nation according to U.S. News & World Report, our pediatric cardiovascular surgeons are consistently pushing the field of congenital heart surgery forward to improve the lives of children and adults with congenital heart disease.
The Congenital Heart Surgery team provides individualized and comprehensive surgical care for all aspects of pediatric and adult congenital heart disease. We are experienced in the rarest and most common cases and perform more than 1,100 surgical procedures annually, with outcomes among the best in the country. We treat patients of all ages, from preterm and low-birth-weight newborns to adults with congenital heart disease, and we personalize treatments and procedures to best suit the situation of each patient and family.
This tailored approach includes cardiopulmonary bypass and neuroprotection strategies focused on the patient’s condition and needs, helping to achieve optimal functional outcomes.
For decades, we have helped children born with congenital heart disease (CHD) live longer, healthier lives by revolutionizing the way these conditions are diagnosed and treated. Today, there are more adults living with CHD than children and they all need the same level of specialized care that they received during childhood. We have designed a program just for adults with CHD to allow them access to the best care possible.
Texas Children’s Heart and Lung Transplant Programs are part of the largest pediatric solid organ transplant program in the nation. Since 1984, Texas Children’s surgeons have performed many heart transplants and lung transplants in children, a benchmark reached by only a few programs in the United States.
The Heart Center Tissue Bank (HCTB) at Texas Children's Hospital is the largest pediatric tissue bank in the Texas Medical Center and houses various tissue samples of patients with congenital heart defects. Our mission is to advance the research of congenital heart defects by fostering research collaborations with investigators not only within Texas Children’s Hospital, but globally.
Our commitment to innovative research is integral to delivering state-of-the-art care. Our faculty actively explores innovative research opportunities, supported by funding from various grants. We are proud to be at the forefront of pioneering efforts, including the development of advanced surgical techniques and technologies, enhancing outcomes for our patients.
In addition, we are committed to educating the next generation of cardiac surgeons. Our highly competitive fellowship programs in congenital heart surgery equip fellows with unparalleled clinical experience, preparing them for successful careers in Congenital Heart Surgery.
This website introduces our dedicated faculty, physicians, and advanced practice practitioners, all of whom possess exceptional training and expertise.
