The mission of the Pediatric Health Equity and Inclusion Council is to encourage a supportive, inclusive environment for people from all backgrounds within the Department of Pediatrics, in order to foster a culture that promotes the practice of cultural humility and competence in healthcare. We do this by creating programming targeting community outreach, mentorship, recruitment and education.

Pride Council
The Pride Council is a sub-section of the Council dedicated to advocacy, support and building the capacity of trainees, faculty and staff to provide culturally competent healthcare to the LGBTQ+ patient community. The Pride Council also has dedicated efforts in outreach, mentorship, recruitment and education. The council is open to all including those who wish to participate as allies of the LGBTQ+ community.

The Health Equity & Inclusion Council has four committees that you may join at any point during your residency.
Recruitment
The Health Equity & Inclusion Council hosts sessions during recruitment season for applicants interested in promoting health equity, cultural competence and cultural humility to best serve our surrounding community.
Mentorship
Events are held throughout the year, including annual speed mentoring panels to provide trainees an opportunity to meet faculty from various specialties.
Outreach
This committee provides an opportunity for members to participate in community events in collaboration with Baylor College of Medicine Pipeline programs, such as Saturday Morning Science and Doctor’s Day Out.
Education
This committee develops programming to provide education to students, residents, fellows and faculty regarding issues that affect our communities, patients and colleagues.
