Guiding Principles

Content

Four principles guide the design of the Master Teachers Fellowship Program:

  • Fellowship activities rely upon existing theory and research. Experience alone does not lead efficiently to expertise. Knowledge and use of established theoretical and empirical frameworks will improve practice and avoid "reinventing the wheel."
  • Fellowship activities are conducted primarily in small groups.
  • Fellowship activities promote meaningful exchange among fellows. Fellows bring to the fellowship a vast store of experience and insight. These backgrounds are of primary importance.
  • Fellowship activities encourage self-reflection. In-class reflection will enhance fellows' insights so that assumptions and behaviors become explicit and open to discussion, observation and modification.
