Possible Signs
Present about 2-10 days after sex. Discharge from penis, vagina or rectum. Painful, difficult urination and bowel movements. In women, can lead to abdominal pain, bleeding between periods. In men, can lead to swollen or tender testicles as well as more frequent urination. Overall, the symptoms may be mild or never appear.
Possible Results
Can damage joints, heart, brain. Can cause skin disease, arthritis and blindness, infertility. In women, can lead to pelvic inflammatory disease (PID), causing problems with pregnancy.
Treatment
Gonorrhea can be cured with antibiotics, but damage may be permanent.
