The Dan L Duncan Comprehensive Cancer Center is committed to raising public awareness about cancer prevention and the importance of screening through public and professional education initiatives. The Community Outreach and Engagement program and the Office of Outreach and Health Disparities features an innovative Theater Outreach Program that uses theatrical performances to engage audiences and provide important cancer prevention education.

The Theater Outreach Program collaborates with community organizations to present evidence-based play and monologue performances to raise awareness about cancer prevention, screening (colorectal, cervical, and breast), clinical trials, and HPV vaccination. Each event features a guest physician or health educator who participates in a moderated Q&A session providing attendees with the opportunity to interact directly with a trained expert about cancer prevention. Performances are delivered live by professional actors and actresses, with a virtual option available through pre-recorded presentations
