Applicants apply to our unique program prior to matching. The Global Child Health Residency Program is a separate listing within the National Residency Matching Program (NRMP). All applications must be submitted via the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS).

We value, but do not require, prior global health experience and/or experience working within resource-limited settings in the United States.

Global Child Health Pediatrics Residents receive all standard Pediatric Resident benefits. In addition, our residents receive the following benefits and reimbursements:

  • Reimbursement of two round-trip tickets up to $2,500 each for travels to your Global Health assignment. Extra ticket may be used for yourself or a family member/loved one
  • Up to $1,200 per month in rent while at your Global Health assignment 
  • Up to $2,000 for storage fees, moving expenses, and/or excess luggage during your Global Health assignment 
  • Reimbursement of hotel coverage for any unavoidable layover flights en route to Global Health assignment 
  • Travel and Hotel covered to attend the annual Global Health Network Meeting in Johannesburg, South Africa during your year abroad 
  • Reimbursement of Texas and country-assignment medical licensure fees, visa and/or work permit fees Global medical insurance coverage during your year abroad
  • Emergency evacuation insurance during your year abroad
  • Medical malpractice coverage at your Global Health site
  • Pre-travel medical consultation and coverage of required travel vaccines and travel medications
