Section Overview
We are a combined division of Rheumatology and Immunology and Allergy- focused on state-of-the-art patient care, research and education/training in musculoskeletal, autoimmune, and allergic diseases. Our faculty perform cutting edge investigation in basic science and translational research as we seek to expand our understanding of the mechanisms that underlie inflammatory, allergic and autoimmune disorders.
Our Section provides comprehensive, patient-centered care for patients with autoimmune diseases, arthritis and other rheumatic diseases. Allergy/Clinical Immunology program provide state-of-the-art testing and treatment of patients with allergies, asthma and immune deficiencies. Patients can seek care for both Rheumatology and Allergy/Clinical Immunology programs in the Baylor Medicine practice at the McNair Campus, at Harris Health and at the Michael E. DeBakey Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
- The Section of Immunology, Allergy, and Rheumatology advances clinical care, research, and collaboration across multiple sites, with a strong emphasis on interdisciplinary partnerships and patient-centered outcomes.
- Faculty lead innovative research on rheumatic and allergic diseases, including translational studies in animal models and investigations into how treatments impact quality of life, pain, sleep and work productivity.
- The section strengthens its collaboration with dermatology by centralizing all patch testing at the McNair campus and expands procedural services with a dedicated musculoskeletal ultrasound clinic.
- Faculty receive recognition for excellence across missions, including awards for research mentorship, outstanding clinical care, and national leadership appointments.
- The BCM Allergy and Immunology Fellowship—Internal Medicine track adds a second position, making the Texas Children’s Hospital–Baylor program one of the largest in the country, with a fully integrated adult and pediatric curriculum.
- Fellows maintain a 100 percent first-time board pass rate, with more than half entering academic medicine, and contribute to research on lupus and cancer immunotherapy, with several manuscripts under review for publication.
