CHRISTUS Children’s, a world-class, freestanding hospital anchored by a broad, integrated network of community-based services and partners, joined Baylor College of Medicine and Texas Children’s Hospital in February, 2013, to ensure that the children of San Antonio and South Texas have access to world-class pediatric care. In this alliance, Baylor recruits, employs, and oversees physicians. Texas Children’s provides consulting and clinical expertise.

At Children's, Baylor physicians provide medical care that includes subspecialties such as Pediatric Infectious Disease, Pediatric Genetics, Pediatric Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Pediatric Dermatology, Pediatric Nephrology, Pediatric Pulmonary Medicine, Pediatric Endocrinology, Pediatric Neurosurgery and General Pediatrics.

Located in the heart of downtown San Antonio, CHRISTUS Children’s, owned by CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Health System, provides inpatient care to approximately 5,000 children, 80,000 emergency department visits (including our freestanding pediatric emergency center in Westover Hills), and 73,000 outpatients visits.

Education

Formal undergraduate and graduate medical education has been taking place at CHRISTUS Children’s since the early 1960s and has continued without interruption. In March, 2014, the Baylor San Antonio Pediatrics Residency Program received accreditation from the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education.

The residency program has taken full advantage of its opportunity to work with our Baylor College of Medicine colleagues who are world-renowned experts in pediatric resident education to create the program that takes each resident’s learning needs into account to design the best possible educational experience for the individual. A uniquely customized curriculum in multiple inpatient and outpatient educational settings is designed to prepare learners for a successful career in whatever aspect of pediatrics chosen – whether it be general or subspecialty pediatrics, academic or community medicine, or even global and underserved advocacy.

At CHRISTUS Children’s, our vision is to train young physicians who make a difference – through scholarly contribution to the field of pediatrics, excellence in patient care, and service to the community.
