The Hepatocellular Carcinoma Early Detection Screening (HES) Algorithm is a statistical predictive model for estimating individual patient's risk of developing hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) within the next 6-months, and provide surveillance recommendations based on HCC risk estimate. HES is also designed to facilitate patient-physician communication by producing easy to understand, printable outputs for patients with information about the 6-month risk of developing HCC, and surveillance recommendations.
The tool does not contain sufficient information to be understood in isolation from dialogue supporting its use. Therefore, the results of this tool should not be used alone to determine a patient's medical treatment.
HES is a statistical model and is not a substitute for an individual treatment plan developed by a health care provider with knowledge of a specific patient. Other important factors that must be considered include the patient's medical history and the experience, knowledge and training of the doctor.
We cannot rule out that the way the HES is used or interpreted in a manner that is not appropriate. Therefore, the creators of the HES do not accept any responsibility in any respect.
