Bod Pod Schematic
This BodPod illustration shows the unit with its door open, displaying the seating area in the measurement chamber. The large window is also evident. The door is held tightly closed during a test with electromagnets around its perimeter. A breathing tube (attachment port shown) is used during the lung volume estimation phase of the procedure. |
Major components of the BodPod are depicted in the diagram on the left. The device is actually made up of two chambers: measurement, (seating the subject) and reference (for comparison and calibration). Electronics are housed in the back-half of the BodPod, from which connections to a controlling computer and high-sensitivity scale are made. A diaphragm system oscillates volumes and measures pressures during a test. The large window allows for a technician to see the subject, and for the subject to enjoy a wide view of the area outside the BodPod. |
