Admissions FAQs for Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Biomedical Sciences and Health Equity

The Admissions Committee will not review an applicant’s file until the following are received: verified application, letters of recommendation, dean’s good standing and student conduct verification form for all colleges and universities attended, and MCAT or GRE scores.

If AP credits appear on your transcript from an accredited undergraduate school, Baylor College of Medicine accepts them. We highly recommend that you take additional upper-level courses in the areas in which credit for introductory level courses was given. We do not accept AP credits for Baylor's required coursework.

If credits for online coursework appear on your transcript from a U.S. accredited undergraduate institution, Baylor College of Medicine accepts them. We now accept online credits for the required courses; this change occurred in 2019.

Do not send your official transcript(s) to the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences. If you are offered an acceptance to Baylor College of Medicine, we will provide instructions on when and where to send your final official transcript(s).

Yes. We will still use your undergraduate courses to determine eligibility and courses taken.

You must have a cumulative undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or higher and a cumulative undergraduate Biology-Chemistry-Physics-Math (BCPM) GPA of 3.0 to be eligible for the program. 

No. As long as you have taken the prerequisites, then you can apply. 

For most students in the program, you would be applying for Entry Year 2025 during the last three months of the program. Some students may be applying during the admissions cycle in which they are enrolled in the program. All students, regardless of their admissions cycle will be expected to complete all program components and requirements.

The program is a full-time program. The program schedule, including academic courses, are not flexible, so finding a balance between scheduled activities and adding a part-time work schedule can be difficult. Students cannot work full-time while enrolled in the program. 

Sure! This program is for anyone who is interested in gaining a holistic experience that will enhance their application to professional programs. As long as you have the pre-requisites for our program, you can certainly apply.

All pre-requisites listed are required in order to apply. Incomplete applications will not be considered.

We are looking for students who embody the AAMC 15 core competencies that focus on creating a holistic student and eventual physician.

The average percentage of students in the BSHEq program that come from underrepresented backgrounds are the following: 58% Pell Grant Recipients, 42% come from a Disadvantaged background, 13% come from a Rural Background, and 42% are First Generation students. We will need to receive your MCAT or GRE score report no later than the application deadline for the program – May 15, 2023.

• For the MCAT, the latest test date that can be considered for the program is March 24 2023.
• For the GRE, ETS offers both test center and home testing options but the test must be taken by April 14, 2023.

Acceptable dates of MCAT or GRE: January 2019 - April 2022.

The Admissions Committee will accept/review the most recent test scores.

There is not an MCAT (or GRE) minimum score requirement to apply for this program. However, we do evaluate score reports to determine your potential to improve future performance. 

At this time, the program does not offer any specific  linkages or provide conditional or guaranteed admission into a specific Texas or out-of-state medical school or health professions program. Our main goal is to help our students get admitted into an accredited medical school or graduate health professions school that is the best fit for them. We help our students explore multiple options, both in-state and out-of-state, and encourage them to decide which schools are a good fit for them. We do not dictate a particular list of schools to consider or discourage students from applying to a particular school based on their experiences, attributes and metrics.

At Baylor College of Medicine, we do not have a GPA or MCAT minimum requirement to apply. The median MCAT score for the most recent entering class was 496, and the median BCPM (biology, chemistry, physics, and math courses) grade point average for the most recent entering class was 3.27.

MCAT scores are required if you are intending to apply to medical school in the future. If you are interested in pursuing another graduate Health Professions program, then we expect you to submit the respective standardized exam (i.e., PCAT for PA programs, OAT for Optometry, DAT for Dentistry, etc.)

Applicants are required to submit: one health professions committee letter/packet or two individual letters of evaluation. Applicants have the option to submit one extra letter. View the Admissions Requirements page.

Applicants should not submit any additional letters of recommendation.

Unfortunately, we do not accept letters of evaluation from third-party portals or systems. We also cannot accept letters of evaluation directly from the applicant. Only the letter writer can submit an evaluation of the applicant by completing the rubric and uploading the required letter of evaluation on letterhead via the admission portal. The letter writer will receive an email with a link for how to access the system. The applicant is required to enter the contact information of recommenders during the application process.

Applicants are welcome from Texas and non-Texas residents. Non-Texas residents will be charged the out-of-state tuition rate.

At this time, the program does not accept DACA students. To be eligible for this program, an applicant must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident. 

BCM determines in-state or out-of-state tuition rates based on residency status.

The determination of residency classification for tuition purposes is governed by statutes enacted by the Texas Legislature and rules and regulations promulgated by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board.
