Professional Statement
I received my Bachelor of Science in Biology from Texas A&M University and graduated as part of the first cohort of the Biology Honors program. Working as a Supplemental Instruction leader for beginner and intermediate biology courses as an undergraduate student helped guide my interest in pursuing genetic counseling after graduation. That experience of combining consideration and education to meet people where they are was fulfilling, and I saw that element mirrored within clinical genetic counseling. I volunteered with a crisis intervention and advocacy organization, where I provided crisis intervention and support to sexual assault survivors and their loved ones through a 24-hour crisis hotline. Along my genetic counseling journey, I joined GOLDEN Genetics, an initiative focused on fostering interest in genetic counseling among prospective African-American/Black students. I also joined Minority Genetic Professionals Network, an organization that connects professionals who identify as racial or ethnic minorities and work in the field of medical genetics. In addition, I worked as a remote intern for a nonprofit organization called Expecting Health. Their goal is to help educate communities and expecting parents with accessible and authentic information to make informed decisions. Recently, I worked as a genetic counseling assistant at an adult clinical cancer genetics office in Medical City Dallas. I’m so excited to be part of the Baylor College of Medicine community, and would love to speak with prospective students about applications, interviews, or my experiences at BCM.Memberships
