Urodynamic Testing

Urodynamic tests are used to determine how well the bladder and urethra are performing their job of storing and releasing urine. The bladder is a balloon-shaped organ that stores urine until you are ready to empty it; the urethra is the tube that carries urine from the bladder to outside of the body.

Urodynamic tests can help determine the cause of symptoms and conditions such as:

• Incontinence
• Frequent urination
• Sudden, strong urges to urinate (overactive bladder)
• Problems starting a urine stream
• Painful urination
• Problems emptying your bladder completely (bladder retention)
• Recurrent urinary tract infections
