Blackboard Inline Grading

1. Open a student's uploaded document via Grade Center, Needs Grading or in the assignment column in the Full Grade Center.
2. The submitted assignment document will be displayed in the center of the screen, with the grading column on the right.

Below are instructions for the quickest way to add highlighting and/or comments to a document. Instructions for the complete set of navigation and annotation features are found at Blackboard's webpage:  Bb Annotate.

1. Access a student's assignment via Grade Center, Needs Grading or in the assignment column in the Full Grade Center.
2. Select some text in the document by holding down your left mouse button and dragging the cursor. When you release the mouse button you will see the highlighting menu: [view screenshot]
3. Click one of the first four icons to Highlight, Strikethrough, Underline (black) or Squiggle-Underline (red) the selected text. 
4. Click the last icon to add a comment anchored to the selected text. Click in the comment box and start typing. When finished, clicking the Save button to confirm your comment submission. [view screenshot] 
5. Your comment appears in the panel to the right of the document with an indicator icon on the selected text. If your comment is longer than the display you will see a Show more button to expand it. 
6. All annotations will be saved by Blackboard automatically. Note: The student will not be able to see any annotations until a grade is submitted for this assignment.
7. Annotation sessions expire after one hour. You'll receive a warning message before your session expires. Your completed annotations, feedback, and files are saved on the page.
8. Select the Submit button or Save as Draft button before leaving this page.
9. Select the Exit button, on the right side of the screen, to return to the Grade Center.

Student View: To view the annotations the student must open the graded assignment by navigating to My Grades and clicking the assignment name. 

Students and Instructors can use the Download icon on the right side of the Bb Annotate tool bar to save the annotated document as a pdf: [view screenshot]

Annotated documents that were annotated in the past using the previous New Box View inline grading tools cannot be downloaded by the student or the instructor, only viewed within the Blackboard course. The student's originally submitted document can be downloaded, but not the annotations.
