About the Center
In 1999, the American Lung Association formed a nationwide clinical network of Asthma Clinical Research Centers to perform large-scale clinical studies in asthma in diverse populations.
The local Asthma Clinical Research Center at Baylor College of Medicine was selected to participate in this elite network and is the only center in Texas. Funding for this center comes mainly from American Lung Association of Texas and in part from Baylor College of Medicine. The principal investigator of the Baylor ACRC is Nicola A. Hanania, M.D., of the Pulmonary Section of the Department of Medicine. The co-principal investigator is Marianna M. Sockrider, M.D., Dr.PH, of the Pediatric Pulmonology Section of the Department of Pediatrics. The center includes several other investigators from Houston Methodist Hospital, Ben Taub Hospital, and Texas Children's Hospital and is part of the Biology of Inflammation Center.
