Plan Your Postdoc
The Office of Postdoctoral Affairs has developed materials to help you plan your postdoc, including a yearly calendar of recurring workshops at BCM for professional development. This includes training on communication, grant-writing, mentoring, teaching, leadership, and career exploration. Use the calendar and description spreadsheet as a resource to build your Individual Development Plan.
Individual Development Plan
An Individual Development Plan helps postdocs explore career paths and set goals necessary to following the path of choice. The IDP also facilitates conversations between postdocs and mentors to ensure the support and resources necessary for success.
Responsible Conduct of Research
NIH policy requires participation in and successful completion of instruction in Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR) by individuals supported by any NIH training, research education, fellowship or career award (NOT-OD-10-019). Postdocs that are paid by either an NIH T32 training grant or an F32 NRSA fellowship must take the entire Ethics Course once every four years.
RCR is available to all postdoc trainees. The RCR courses are offered annually in four mini-courses between March and April.
Career Development Center
The Career Development Center is available to assist postdoctoral associates and fellows by providing training, resources and professional connections for trainees to achieve their professional goals and independent careers. The CDC provides individualized professional coaching to support postdocs in self-discovery and professional planning. Learn more about all the services provided by the Career Development Center.
Advanced Technology Cores
In addition to state-of-the-art instrumentation and technologies to support research of all faculty and trainees, the Advanced Technology Cores also provide consultation on experimental design, data analysis and training.
Team Launch
The ability to both participate in and lead teams are essential to success in all biomedical careers. Through Master Classes and the faculty fellows program, postdocs have the opportunity to participate in Team Launch, an innovative, interdisciplinary initiative designed to help everyone at Baylor College of Medicine develop and implement the skills necessary to create, participate in, and lead interdisciplinary teams that solve complex problems.
Living Our Values
When we live our shared values of respect, integrity, innovation, teamwork, and excellence, the Baylor culture supports all members of our community to thrive personally and professionally. Despite our best efforts and intentions, there will be times when actions are taken by members of our community that do not align with our values. Find resources to help you with interpersonal or personal challenges.
Research Resources
Research facilities and training are key to the success of your work. Through the Office of Research, the Advanced Technology Cores, the Dan L Duncan Institute for Clinical and Translational Research and other entities, postdocs have access to extensive facilities and training opportunities designed to support your research.
Postdoctoral Association
The Postdoctoral Association works to build a sense of community among our diverse postdoctoral community.
