Resources for Administrative Staff
Administrative staff members play a vital role in helping Baylor College of Medicine postdoctoral trainees develop their training plan and ensuring they have the support they need to succeed. The Office of Postdoctoral Affairs is available to assist you as you support our postdocs.
We hold Quarterly Postdoctoral Administrators Meetings (QPAM) to provide updates and help you better navigate the appointment process. An appointment is a one-year renewable contract and is required for all postdoctoral trainees. The appointment process is driven by departmental administrative staff members through the Postdoc Appointment and Profiles database. If you are new to managing postdoc appointments, please contact postdocaffairs@bcm.edu to be added to the QPAM invitation list, gain access to the database and QPAM Resource BOX, and set up a training.
Postdoctoral Training Support
Postdoctoral associates and fellow are encouraged to attend the Office of Postdoctoral Affairs Orientation within their first three months at BCM. The orientation is offered on the third Tuesday of every month at 4 PM and outlines postdoc-specific benefits and resources. As a trainee, it is vital for postdocs to develop an Individual Development Plan and know about the professional and career development trainings that are offered by the Office of Postdoctoral Affairs and the Career Development Center.
Interpersonal and Personal Challenges Support
Baylor College of Medicine is committed to supporting postdoctoral researchers throughout their training. We offer support through various initiatives to help postdocs successfully manage interpersonal and personal challenges that may arise during training. These include the Ombuds Office, which provides a confidential, informal, and neutral place to discuss concerns, resolve disputes, manage, conflicts and increase skills regarding communication. We seek to address and resolve Research Postdoctoral Scholar Grievances in a fair and timely manner.
The Postdoctoral Scholars Grievance Policy states the types of grievances, explains how grievances will be resolved, and outlines the process. The Employee Assistance Program (Baylor login required) is available to help with mental health and wellness counseling and the BCM BeWell Program (Baylor login required) provides access to numerous health and wellness services.
