The Department of Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine provides excellence in education, research and clinical care that takes place through the efforts of our faculty, staff, students and trainees. Our physicians practice in a variety of locations, including the Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center, which is our private adult hospital, the Baylor Clinic, Ben Taub Hospital, Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center, and Houston Methodist Hospital. Many of the specialty and subspecialty services at these locations are nationally ranked as sites of premier clinical quality.
Patients receive personalized, state-of-the-art consultations and diagnosis and compassionate treatment of diseases affecting internal organs, ranging from heart disease, diabetes, and allergies to breast cancer and cystic fibrosis. Adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities transitioning into adult care receive personalized, quality care and social services through our unique Transition Medicine Clinic.
The Department of Medicine is a nationally recognized site for cutting-edge biomedical research. Our researchers, including many physician researchers, are developing treatments for vital areas such as cancer, AIDS, digestive diseases and the diseases of aging, through 14 sections and three research centers and are translating this knowledge to improved care for our patients.
The Department of Medicine's education efforts train and teach the next generation of leaders in medicine through a medical school, graduate medical training, fellowships and internships. Our goal is to develop physicians and independent scientists who will make significant contributions to clinical care, education, and biomedical research and be an asset to the institutions and communities they serve, and they apply their dedication and expertise to the care of our patients.
