Nurse-Family Partnership at the Teen Health Clinic
The Texas Nurse-Family Partnership pairs bachelor-degreed registered nurses with low-income, first-time mothers to improve prenatal care and provide one-on-one child development education and counseling. Women are enrolled early in the second trimester of their pregnancy, and a nurse begins visiting them. Visits, which usually occur in the family’s home, continue throughout the teen’s pregnancy and until her child is two years old. The nurses provide support, education, and counseling on health, parenting, developmental issues and life skills.
